Visa Information

Please read the information below for important details on visa requirements for travel to Egypt.

Do You Need a Visa?

All travelers entering Egypt are required to obtain a visa prior to or upon arrival in the country. Most visitors, including U.S. passport holders, will need a visa for tourism or business stays.

Visa Options

e-Visa (Recommended)

You can apply online for an e-Visa before you travel. The e-Visa is typically processed within about 7 working days and allows entry for short stays (often up to 30 days). Be sure to apply at least 7 days before travel.

Visa on Arrival (not recommended)

Many visitors may obtain a visa upon arrival at major international airports or border crossings. A visa on arrival generally permits a stay of up to 30 days.

Applying Through an Embassy or Consulate

Some travelers may choose to apply for their visa in person at an Egyptian Embassy or Consulate, especially for business or multiple-entry visas. Requirements and processing times can vary, so check with the nearest diplomatic mission for details and appointments.

Entry Requirements

Before you apply for an e-Visa or arrive for a visa on arrival, make sure you have:

  • A passport valid for at least 6 months beyond your planned arrival date.
  • At least one blank page in your passport for entry/exit stamps.
  • Proof of your travel itinerary and accommodations.
  • Yellow fever vaccination certificate if required (only if arriving from certain countries).

Conference Invitation Letter

Many travelers find it helpful to include an official invitation letter from the event organizer when applying for their visa. While not always required for standard tourist visas, it may support your application and clarify the purpose of your trip for consular officials.
If you need an invitation letter:
  • Complete your registration for the conference.
  • Check your official Confirmation Email for a personalized invitation letter
  • Use the letter with your e-Visa or embassy application.
